Yes I'm online again! Do not ask me how though :-S
What the cause is, I still don't know, but my computer stopped working. It was unstable for quite some time already, but managed to boot and stay on for some time. Now it had its last breath last thursday I guess. It might have even been wednesday.
I replaced the memory dimm and it showed some life again. The computer beeped (again). But it still hangs on the memory detection test and a full start still remains to happen. Also using my old PCI video card in my new computer didn't work.
Am I lucky my complete old Pentium 100 MHz from 1995 is still alive :) I switched my network card and DVD-rom to that old machine and what do you know... It works. It is able to get online. I'm stunned 100 MHz, 40 MB RAM, 800 MB HD; it loves the internet :D
So what is the case: for quite some time it just seemed to drop power; it rebooted for no particular reason. Some blue screens, but not really a lot. At last some messages at startup that Windows (2000) needs a minimum of 7 MB memory to start. It might be either the dimm or maybe the video card, but who knows it is the motherboard itself..?
Well, of course I like to get online with my new machine again so if you have any ideas on the cause, please comment!
